"The sensor here is a soil probe. It is located inside the scooper. The rover decides if it should pick up the soil (if there is any around), and measures it. The action it does when it make the decision is: it drives to the soil, digs it, and scoops it out, uses the probe to measure the temp and shows it on microbit."
