This Year in Retrospect
2022 was a pivotal year of change for our organization. It was a busy and exciting year of growth. Let’s take a look back at five major events that shaped our year and made it an exceptional one!
Big news! Kids Code Jeunesse becomes Digital Moment!
In May, Kids Code Jeunesse became part of Digital Moment!
Digital Moment includes three educational initiatives: Kids Code Jeunesse (same name, same great quality education), as well as two new initiatives Digital2030 and a Social Innovation Lab. Focused on creating programs for youth and communities, Digital Moment will provide young people with access to digital skills such as coding, digital literacy, and AI.
The Digital2030 Challenge: Promoting Health and Well-Being through digital skills
With the creation of the Digital2030 initiative came a brand new Challenge. This year, it is related to SDG#3: Good Health and Well-Being. Through this annual Challenge, youth from all around the globe can build up their digital skills to create a global impact. They'll use coding while exploring data science, data visualization, and digital art.
3rd Annual KCJ Summer Institute: Learning All-Year Long
The KCJ Summer Institute 2022 took place in August 2022. It is one of our most important professional development events bringing together more than 200 KCJ ambassadors, teachers, pre-service teachers, and education not-for-profit organizations from all over the country, from Vancouver Island to St-John’s.
During the event, we learned about micro:bit sensors, MakeCode Arcade, machine learning, algorithmic art, AI, biases, and social-emotional learning. Stay tuned for details on next year’s event! You won’t want to miss it!
Thanks again to all the participants and sponsors for making the Institute such a success: Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, IBM Canada, Amazon FutureEngineers, and ScaleAI Canada.

Giving Indigenous youth access to digital education with FabLab Onaki
FabLab Onaki is the first indigenous FabLab in Canada, established by The First Peoples Innovation Centre (FPIC) in Gatineau, Québec. Their vision is that Indigenous people have the same learning opportunities, development, and employability as non-natives. They want them to learn digital skills, contributing to their development and improving employability. In our effort to engage in meaningful relationships with Indigenous families and communities and give them access to these digital skills, we teamed up with FabLab Onaki this Summer to create the "Connecting Indigenous Youth and AI" program.
We are happy to say it was an amazing experience and that we will continue to work on new programs together.
The Lunar Gateway Challenge: Inspiring the next generation of young space enthusiasts
In 2022, we partnered with the Canadian Space Agency, Steamlabs, and Western University to create the Lunar Gateway Challenge. We wanted to celebrate Canada’s contribution to the Lunar Gateway and inspire Canadian youth ages 10-15 to create solutions involving AI and robotics to solve deep space problems. Their mission is to design an AI robot that could potentially help astronauts with their exploration of the Moon. So far, we received pretty wild designs such as this one from Tyler.
Teachers can submit their students’ ideas through our Code in the Stars page to win a chance to qualify for a 5-day residency led by STEAM experts for the entire classroom.
With your continuous support, we’ve reached over 15,000 students this year, conducted over 685 workshops and we couldn’t have done it without your support. As a charity, we rely on generous donations from organizations and individuals like you to continue to deliver quality programs to our communities.
